Students will build upon their understanding of geometric shapes to create more complex images while learning the use of line, form, space, and perspective to complete drawings that are, ultimately, all their own. OPEN TO GRADE 4-5 STUDENTS ONLY This program prepares members to fly and build drones to participate in the yearly Drones 4 Good (D4G) Competition hosted by Midtown Mavericks at Midtown High-school. You can learn more about competition here: https://midtownmavericks.org Students will work both individually and in teams to develop winning designs. The competition itself will be held in the 2025 spring term in late April-early May. Previous experience with drones is required. In addition to the built-from-scratch drones we work on for team competition, students will be responsible for the upkeep and health of their trainer drone that they will use to practice obstacle flying, learn battery management and hone their piloting skills. When not flying, we will delve into the world of material science as we encourage experimenting with different materials to achieve the delicate balance between strength and weight. Drone safety is our number-one priority and by the end of the term all students will have completed drone safety and certification with the FAA and AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics). This includes passing the Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST) that allows for the flying of drones over .5 lbs. A youth membership of $15/year with the AMA is required to participate in the DFG competition and is not included in the registration cost of this program. FORE!!! Overtime Sports Golf program is designed to instill important life skills and character building qualities that are essential for the development of each student. The program provides students with beginning, intermediate, and advanced level junior golfing instruction in a no-pressure environment. Students will learn golf history, etiquette, grip, stance, posture, putting, specialty shots, and a variety of other skills. Kids TV Jr. Description During Kids TV Jr., students in primary grades 1st - 2nd will learn the basics of camera and acting for the camera. Kids will practice camera foundations such as zoom, focus, wide shot, medium shot and close ups as well as practicing how to perform key emotions and control over voice, body and face in front of the camera. Then, the kids will work in groups to create 3 projects for the semester consisting of commercials, a talk show and 2-3 min silent movie. Calling all Master Builders! Bricks4Kidz Master Builders LEGO Club is back! Come join us in building jaw-dropping, awesome and head-spinning LEGO models while building important S.T.E.M. skills! In this advanced S.T.E.M. club, children will use our signature “Project 1 Kit” to build the most complex of our over 1,000 different proprietary motorized LEGO models from our over 200 unit-themes. Our "Master Builders" build from fun themes such as Star Wars and Minecraft, while developing important hands-on problem solving skills, critical thinking and creativity. Junior LEGO Robotics and More! This course serves as an exciting hands-on introduction to the world of building and programming robots. No prior experience with robotics is necessary. During each session students will explore concepts of designing, building and programming robots using a number of different platforms including LEGO BOOST, Sphero and Ozobots. The spring Senior Robotics Class will be Sumo Bots and will only last an hour. Grades will be 3-5 for the spring only. Updated description: Robotics club serves as an extracurricular enrichment program that encourages the exploration and application of STEAM based principals through building and programming robots for elementary students grades 3-5. No previous experience with robotics is necessary. Returning students will be given the freedom to build upon past experiences on new platforms and challenges. Activities focus on honing critical thinking skills, perseverance and teamwork as students learn to program, use sensors and design attachments. For the spring 2025, we will explore the world of Battle Bots and compete in our own TRI ROBOT SUMO CUP! Teams of students will compete to out program, out design and out build their peers. There will be a friendly competition between Sarah Smith, Warren T. Jackson, Virginia Highland and Springdale Park Elementaries at the end of the term. Using the LEGO MINDSTORM EV3 and RC battle bot platforms, students will learn programming and building skills that will translate nicely to the FLL competition we compete in each Fall. For those not necessarily interested in competing in the SUMO challenge, there will be options to build a host of helper bots as well as the robotic arena itself. Hexbug Nanos, Spheros, as well as a couple of new surprises will make guest appearances throughout the season. PLEASE NOTE CHANGE IN TIME. Tap Ballet is a combination class split with 30 minutes of Tap and 30 minutes of Ballet. This is a great class for the young dancer who wants to learn the fundamentals of both Tap and Ballet. Classes touch on both warm-up and technique of both disciplines, as well as proper arm, leg, and foot positions. Studio Go’s Tap Ballet program is a progressive program that introduces more complex technique and patterns of movement to challenge the elementary student. These classes are perfect for both beginners and the more serious dance student. Our teachers are prepared and evaluate where each student is (level) to make sure that all students are both comfortable and challenged at the same time.
