    ART & FUN FACTS with Vamos Chicos- taught in English at Jackson- We offer a unique fusion of art & facts as we create unique projects made from recycled materials and nature items. Each week we focus on a specific animal, place or seasonal celebration. We present an art project and it’s facts, and then invite students to contribute with their own knowledge.   • Bricks 4 Kidz Master Builders

    Calling all Master Builders! Bricks4Kidz Master Builders LEGO Club is back! Come join us in building jaw-dropping, awesome and head-spinning LEGO models while building important S.T.E.M. skills! In this advanced S.T.E.M. club, children will use our signature “Project 1 Kit” to build the most complex of our over 1,000 different proprietary motorized LEGO models from our over 200 unit-themes. Our "Master Builders" build from fun themes such as Star Wars and Minecraft, while developing important hands-on problem solving skills, critical thinking and creativity. Each model teaches students new and interesting S.T.E.M. concepts such as fractions, gear ratios, laws of motion and much more! Each child will get to take home a custom-built mini-figure at the end of the semester!
  • Drama with Atlanta Children's Theatre

    Taught by professionals from Atlanta Children's Theatre (chosen as 2019 Atlanta Magazine's "Best Place for Kids to Act Out" in the December "Best of ATL" issue), young actors develop their acting skills through fun drama games, improvisations and plays. A fun and nurturing environment is created where children are always center stage and their creativity is celebrated! Class will culminate in a performance for family and friends.
  • Drawing Elements with Spunky Arts

    New lessons each semester! Drawing basics balancing classic arts education and fun. Basic does not mean boring! Students will build upon their understanding of geometric shapes to create more complex images while learning the use of line, form, space, and perspective to complete drawings that are, ultimately, all their own. This class offers weekly step-by-step single subject drawings designed to scaffold the elements of drawing while improving handwriting and fine motor skills. Parents of students who have taken this class one or more times have reported not only remarkable improvements in handwriting and fine motor skills but also persistence, patience, and confidence in their student.   • Drones and Design with Steam Powered Kids

    THIS IS AN INVITATION ONLY, COMPETITION CLASS. REGISTRATION FOR THIS CLASS WILL OPEN AT A LATER DATE TBA by PROGRAM INSTRUCTOR. The program prepares members to fly and build drones to participate in the yearly Drones For Good (DFG) Competition hosted by G3 Robotics @ Midtown High-school. You can learn more about competition here: Students will work both individually and in teams to develop winning designs. The competition itself will be held in the 2023 spring term in Late April early May. previous experience with drones is required. In addition to the built-from-scratch drones we work on for team competition, students will be responsible for the upkeep and health of their trainer drone that they will use to practice obstacles, learn battery management and hone their piloting skills. When not flying, we will delve into the world of material science as we encourage experimenting with different materials to achieve the delicate balance between strength and weight. Drone safety is our number-one priority and by the end of the term all students will have completed drone safety and certification with the FAA and AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics). This includes passing the Recreational UAS Safety Test (TRUST) that allows for the flying of drones over .5 lbs. A youth membership of $15/year with the AMA is required to participate in the DFG competition and is not included in the registration cost of this program.   • Find the Wild with Blue Heron Nature Preserve

    Join Blue Heron Nature Preserve as we search for insects, rocks, birds, and more in the schoolyard habitat! An expert Blue Heron Naturalist will help children make exciting finds in nature and learn how to explore safely. By spending hands-on time in outside, children will learn to care for living things and build their own scientific understanding of the natural world through discovery, observation, and experimentation. Your Blue Heron naturalist will bring an outdoor activity kit each week, with tools to encourage exploration and observation. This kit will include magnifying lenses, field guides, insect nets, microscopes, art supplies, and more! Each session and week is different, since nature is always changing and our instructors develop activities in response to children's interests and developmental needs. Program questions?
  • Golf with OT Sports

    FORE!!! Overtime Sports Golf program is designed to instill important life skills and character building qualities that are essential for the development of each student. The program provides students with beginning, intermediate, and advanced level junior golfing instruction in a no-pressure environment. Students will learn golf history, etiquette, grip, stance, posture, putting, specialty shots, and a variety of other skills. Each student will have a precise understanding of how the game is played from tee to green. Students who demonstrate aptitude and interest for the sport can advance their golf skills to the competitive level, while others can participate in the sport for fun. Please wear PE type clothes. ALL EQUIPMENT IS PROVIDED.
  • Graphic Novel & Comics Creation

    Drawing! Creative Writing! Character Development! Sequential art and creating comics combines drawing, creative writing, and character development teaching skills beyond basic arts like sequencing, and creative and critical thinking. All while having fun, of course! Using prompts and activities, students will develop their own characters and story lines creating a book of their own comics by semester’s end!   • Kids TV - Video & Film Production

    During Kids TV class, students learn how to produce and film movies and TV Shows. Students will work with professional filmmakers to learn camera operations, lighting, producing, and directing. Then students will work as a film crew to develop and produce their own video projects, TV shows, or movies. This class is open to grades 3-5. Questions?
  • Robotics Junior with Steam Powered Kids

    This course serves as an exciting hands-on introduction to the world of building and programming robots. No prior experience with robotics is necessary. During each session students will explore concepts of designing, building and programming robots using a number of different platforms including LEGO BOOST, MINDSTORM, Sphero and Ozobots. Students will investigate how robots use attachments to manipulate their world and how Ozobots follow lines though programmable mazes. Program specific questions?   • Robotics Senior with Steam Powered Kids

    Robotics club serves as an extracurricular enrichment program that encourages the exploration and application of STEAM based principals through building and programming robots for elementary students grades 4-5. No previous experience with robotics is necessary. Returning students will be given the freedom to build upon past experiences on new platforms and challenges. Activities focus on honing critical thinking skills, perseverance and teamwork as students learn to program, use sensors and design attachments. For the spring 2023, we will explore the world of Battle Bots and compete in our own TRI ROBOTICS SUMO CUP! Teams of students will compete to out program, out design and out build their peers. There will be a friendly competition between Sarah Smith Elementary, Warren T. Jackson and Springdale Elementary at the end of the term. PLEASE NOTE CHANGE IN TIME. Since there is no FLL competition in the Spring, Senior robotics ends 30 min earlier. Using the LEGO MINDSTORM EV3 platform, students will learn programming and building skills that will translate nicely to the FLL competition we compete in each Fall. For those not necessarily interested in competing in the SUMO challenge, there will be options to build a host of helper bots as well as the robotic arena itself.   • Soccer with OT Sports

    Soccer with Overtime Sports is an active program for boys and girls designed to develop an interest in the game and establish a solid foundation in preparation for recreational or club soccer. We are able to accomplish this by making sure the number one ingredient is present at all times: FUNdamentals! Students will learn various elements of the game such as passing, trapping, dribbling, shooting, and ball control. The sessions are composed of exciting games such as Terminator, Sting Ray, and World Cup. It is our belief that soccer instills cooperation, teamwork, sportsmanship, and self-confidence, all of which are key components that transcend the playing field and impact the development of our children.

Grounded Kids yoga allows children to learn about themselves in new ways so they can skillfully navigate the ups and downs of life. Our kid-friendly yoga poses, purpose-driven yoga games, mindset meditations and breathing techniques are so engaging that even after one class our students are motivated and able to practice at home.
