Smart Start Summer Camp- For Sarah Smith Rising 1st and 2nd Grades only
Summer Programs -
2022 Summer Programs & Camps
To prepare students in rising grades 1st and 2nd for their new challenges in the upcoming school year, we are offering a week- long Reading and Phonics Camp using the Orton-Gillingham method. We know that students have missed out on a great deal of face-to-face instruction due to the Corona Crisis. We plan on focusing on reviewing what was taught when everyone was virtual, as well as what was purposefully taught the last two quarters in Kindergarten and First Grade (according to their rising grade) whether your child was face-to-face or remained virtual. We will provide instruction and practice of spelling rules and reading skills through hands-on activities and games. The camp will not only teach and prepare children for their upcoming year, but they will have a blast, too! This camp should give your child a “smart start” to first or second grade! Campers will spend 20 hours involved in hands-on activities designed to help them develop the skills needed to prepare for reading, writing, and spelling in first or second grade.
Our days will focus on recognizing and producing letter sounds (consonants and vowels), digraphs, and blends. We will be counting, pronouncing, blending and segmenting syllables in spoken words, learning short and long vowel sounds, and learning some spelling rules that will be taught in the upcoming year at Sarah Smith.
Camp includes snacks and all materials. Registration Deadline: July 1 at midnight.
